Welcome to another of my attempts at a homepage.  I am assistant chairman of the Villanova Math Department.  This basically means I make out the schedule for our department, handle changes of student's schedules, and deal with complaints (I don't mean to encourage these).  It actually is a great job!  My B.S. degree is from the University of Toledo and my M.S. and Ph.D are from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  My thesis was in the area of underwater acoustics.  After graduate school, I taught two years at Jacksonville University  in Jacksonville, Florida.   J.U is famous for being the smallest school ever to make it to the final four in basketball.  In 1970, their team led by Artis Gilmore lost in the finals to one of those excellent UCLA teams.   I enjoyed being at J.U. and the people there were so giving to me but when the opportunity came in the fall of 1988 I left for Villanova and have been here since.  This is a great school.

I grew up in Oak Harbor, Ohio which is located between Toledo and Cleveland along Lake Erie.  My parents were both teachers.  My mom taught English and was the president of the Oak Harbor School Board.  I had my dad for biology, but he also taught other science and math classes.  He served in the Navy in World War II on the heavy cruiser U.S.S. Indianapolis and the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Matanikau.  My mom passed away in February of 2007.   The amount of kindness shown me by people in the Villanova community when she died was something I will never forget.
