Extra-curricular Activities
My main extra-curricular interests have always been sports and music. During my free time, I play a variety of sports including tennis, ultimate, basketball and volleyball although my truest love will always be baseball (although it's mostly softball these days). Being a New Yorker, I am an avid fan of the Yankees, and I remained active playing and coaching softball in town and intramural leagues during graduate school at Cornell.
Music has always been important in my life, and I still remember holding up a tape recorder to my radio to tape songs from Casey Kasem's Top 40 Countdown. Fortunately, my tastes have grown up and matured, although I am known for occasionally indulging in the pop songs of my youth. I was a disc jockey for a year at a local rock radio station in Ithaca, and I have DJed many parties and weddings for friends. I enjoy listening to all kinds of music - from the Allman Brothers to Tom Waits to Stevie Wonder to Willie Nelson - but most of my favorite artists are folkish performers such as John Gorka, Van Morrison, James Taylor and Joni Mitchell. I learned to play guitar in college, and occasionally can be heard strumming and singing by campfires.
